National Security: If there’s one thing you can still count on from today’s increasingly erratic politics, it is pure unadulterated paradox.
In a Washington circus that features as many morons as oxymorons, we have self-described Deficit hawks who promote Tax Cuts, alleged war opponents who back war escalations, and supposed anti-government Conservatives who press to expand the National Security State.
Heck, we even have senators who famously brag of voting for things before voting against them. That ...
Is Rudy Giuliani running for president again? (The Ticket)
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani's bid for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination went down in flames, but that apparently hasn't stopped him from considering another White House run.
While Giuliani denies it, sources close to the former mayor tell CBS's Stephanie Condon that he's been reaching out to political advisers to feel out the possibility of a 2012 Campaign.
One source, who refused to be named, tells CBS that Giuliani has learned his lesson from '08 — a campaign in which he skipped...
U.S. Passport Application Undergoes Change To Accomodate Same-Sex Parents
Source: Huffington Post
The U.S. passport application process is taking a step toward gender neutrality by dropping the words "mother" and "father" from their forms.
According to a recent Fox News report, applicants will soon be required to fill out spaces labeled "Parent One" and "Parents Two," instead.
Fox News reports:
A statement on the State Department website noted: "These improvements are being made to provide a gender neutral description of a child's parents and in recognition of differe...
What Really Happened When Pelosi Handed Boehner the Gavel
New Speaker of the House John Boehner was unable to come up with a single government program he would cut when quized by NBC’s Brian Williams (via Below The Beltway). WILLIAMS: Name a program right now that we could do without. BOEHNER: I don’t think I have one off the top of my head. The news is definitely concerning Conservatives who thought the new Congress was prepared to take a real hatchet to Government Spending. Makes me want to cry. ...
DEBT CEILING RUSSIAN ROULETTE
Here’s my latest from PJ Media - typical Moran bombast against The Crazies in the GOP whose latest brainstorm is to blow up The Economy by refusing to support raising the Debt ceiling.
Do ya think I was too hard on them?
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the new Republican Party: Just like the old one but now with 25% more nuts and 50% more empty heads. At least Pontius Pilate had the decency to wash his hands before committing a despicable act of blatant irresponsibility. DeMint wants to...

The Tea Party is not conservative
There are two Primary Schools of political thought in America today; neo Liberalism and Conservatism. Media has branded the Tea Party as Right Wing conservative Extremists, however they are not conservative. The Tea Party movement is a classical liberal movement. Conservatives have a fixation on tradition, which is why liberals today refer to themselves as progressive. However, the Tea Party is not fixated on preserving tradition. Classical Liberal political thought focuses on realism through po...

Fuel duty cut urged as bills rise
The price of petrol has hit another record high, prompting a Small Business organisation to urge the government to consider cutting fuel duty.
The average price of unleaded has hit 127.7p per litre, according to Experian Catalist.
The government confirmed it was looking at a fuel price stabiliser, which would cut duty when the price of oil went up.
But the Forum of Private Business has urged the government to just cut duty if this was too difficult to introduce.
Prime Minister David Cameron ...

Moderate Sperling replaces Summers
WASHINGTON — President Obama yesterday made his second key appointment in two days, naming Gene Sperling to replace Larry Summers as director of the National Economic Council.
On Thursday, Banker William Daley, who served as commerce secretary in President Clinton’s Cabinet, was named Chief of Staff.
The moves solidify the president’s push to build bridges with the business community and signal cooperation to ascendant Republicans. Both men are considered moderates, with exten...
Conservative Health Care Reform, Can It Exist?
David Brooks predicts what will happen after the Affordable Care Act melts down:
When the crisis comes, Democrats will face an interesting choice — to patch the Obama system or try to replace it with something bigger. The administration may want a patch, but by a ratio of nearly 2 to 1, according to a CNN poll, Democratic voters would prefer a more ambitious law. Liberals could logically say that the mistake was trying to create a hybrid system, rather than moving straight to a single-pay...
Conservatives Admit Debt Ceiling Threat Is A Bluff
It's increasingly clear that Republican leaders are bluffing when they threaten to destroy the full faith and credit of the American government by allowing the Debt ceiling to be shattered unless draconian Budget cuts are made.
And a clear bluff is a bad bluff. There is no need to concede to any of their demands to protect American credit and the Global Economy.
Last year, the now-Speaker John Boehner said Republicans would have to deal with the Debt ceiling like "adults."
And this week, the ...
The Health Care Repeal Rorschach
Any post about the GOP's efforts to Repeal Health Care reform this week should begin with the following caveat: Health care reform will not be repealed, not ever, so long as Democrats control the White House and half of Congress; so this is a symbolic vote and an academic debate. That said, a letter today from the Congressional Budget Office summarizing the effects of repealing the Health Care law offers an important glimpse into how Republicans and Democrats think differently about entitlements...
Sen. Conrad Plutocracy Plan Vs. Democracy Deficit Commission
This post originally appeared at Campaign for America's Future (CAF) at their Blog for OurFuture. I am a Fellow with CAF.
If you saw this morning's Progressive Breakfast, you know that Senator Kent Conrad has an op-ed in Politico, "Priority no. 1: Pass long-term Budget plan," in which he proposes steps to do something about the borrowing caused by the Tax Cuts for the rich that he just voted for. (And if you didn't see this morning's Progressive Breakfast you really ought to sign up to receive i...

Daniels: Bush deficit result of burst bubbles
When we last checked in with GOP 2012 hopeful Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, he was talking about how body-part replacement would mean the younger generations of Americans would live to be over 100, so of course we have to raise the Retirement Age.
This Republican bright light has also now provided his wisdom on the Deficits that ballooned in the Bush Administration.
"The nation went into a deficit then because the bubble burst and we had a Recession," Daniels told CNN this afternoon. "It wouldn't...
Bartlett: Dont Let the GOP End the CBO
Bruce Bartlett writes:
It’s a fact of life that sometimes you have to spend money to save money. We all know this in our personal lives. For example, it may be cheaper to buy a new car than keep spending money repairing an old one, or to invest in a more efficient new furnace that may pay for itself by lowering one’s heating bill. The same is true with government. Closing an obsolete Military Base costs money in the short run, but saves money in the long run.
Another way Congress may need ...
Georgia Democrat hints at House grudge match
Georgia Democrat Jim Marshall left the door open to a return to politics when thanking supporters in Macon Thursday.
The former four-term congressman lost his seat to Republican Austin Scott in a surprise upset in November.
Having left Congress, Marshall is set to teach a course on National Security at Princeton University, but noted he's still looking for other ways to serve.
"I don't plan on stopping my service, but I don't know what that service will be," he told some 200 supporters who tu...
British Defense Chief: Not a Time for Strategic Shrinkage
UK defense chief General Sir David Richards declared that, despite painful cuts in his country's Military Budget, they "will continue to be the best ally the United States could hope for." Richards made no bones about how painful Austerity would be, noting that it will require manning a smaller force than he would like and giving up missions and weapons systems that, in an ideal world, he would fund. At the same time, however, he acknowledged that defense will take a far lesser hit tha...
