Jared Loughner: Not every insane act by a "Lone Wolf" is a political event.

A tragedy to be sure, but in this case even if Jared Lee Loughner thought he was making a political statement, it was not a political event.

Liberals Seek Ban on Metaphors in Wake of Arizona Shooting
After the monstrous shooting in Arizona last week, surely we can all agree that we've got to pass Obama's agenda immediately and stop using metaphors. At least I think that's what the Mainstream Media are trying to tell me. Liberals instantly leapt on the sickening massacre at a Tucson political event over the weekend to accuse tea partiers, Sarah Palin and all Conservatives who talk out loud of being complicit in Murder by inspiring the shooter, Jared Loughner. You must login to comment. The Fo...
"Stochastic Terrorism"--A powerful, highly accurate new meme
In a recent discussion thread, Sadie Baker called attention to a very important DKos diary with a powerful new meme, "Stochastic Terrorism". The diarist has been using the term for some time now, and many others have described this process as well. But the time has never been ripe before for this particular picture-perfect formulation to gel. Now, however, the time is ripe--it cuts through so much BS all at once (particularly the way that individualist assumptions and framing cloud people's un...
Newsweek Blames Boehner And Other Conservatives For Tucson Attack, Says They Killed Napolitanos War On Right Wing Extremism Whic
The man behind the Leftist machine
Newsweek:
Two years before the Tucson massacre, the Department of Homeland Security warned in a report that right-wing Extremism was on the rise and could prompt “lone wolves” to launch attacks. But the agency backed away from the report amid intense criticism from Republicans, including future House Speaker John Boehner.
The report, which warned that the crippled economy and the election of the first black president were “unique drivers for ri...

Newsweek Stubbornly Pretends Loughner a 'Lone Wolf' Right-winger
Jared Loughner, the suspect arrested in Saturday's shooting death of a Federal Judge and critical wounding of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Arizona), is no right-winger and certainly not a Military Veteran. All the same, Newsweek published an article today suggesting that Loughner's deadly rampage on Saturday was the consequence of conservative politicians dismissing the warnings of a Homeland Security report from 2009 warning about "Lone Wolf" attacks by right-wingers, particular...
'Loughner was crazy' argument misses the point in the Arizona shootings case
Last Saturday Jared Lee Loughner alleged shot and killed six people and injured another fourteen at public event hosted by Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ). Since that time some have claimed that Loughner behavior was caused, at least in part, by the heated political of the past two years. Others have essentially argued that Loughner was a "nutjob" or "a crazed Lone Wolf", that society had no control over. Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck both argued that Lougher was s...
Newsweek: DHS tried to warn us about attacks from right-wing extremists, didnt they?
The title of the piece, printed above a photo of Loughner’s home and the now famous crazy-eyes mugshot: “The Missed Warning Signs.”
Am I awake?

But the agency backed away from the report amid intense criticism from Republicans, including future House Speaker John Boehner.

The tragic shooting of Congresswoman Giffords affects all of us
The gunman is Jared Loughner. He is sick and deranged. Unfortunately, liberal pundits attempted to tie Loughner as a conservative and blamed Talk Radio for this shooting. He had been stalking Congresswoman Giffords for years. Their observations were unfounded and completely false. Loughner was a Lone Wolf; a term liberals often use to categorize criminals. People who knew Loughner said he was unstable and prone to violence. He is an atheist. He listened to hea...
Appropriator: Too early to talk increase for Capitol Police in wake of shooting
Rep. Ander Crenshaw (R-Fla.), the incoming head of the House Appropriations subcommittee on the legislative branch and a member of Congress with influence on the Budget of the Capitol Police, said Monday it is too early to say whether he would support any Budget increases for security in light of the weekend shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.).
Each Appropriations subcommittee has been tasked by GOP leaders to find places to make deep cuts to spending, and Crenshaw is looking for red...
The pattern takes hold
By Mustang Bobby.
The pattern is sadly the same. A horrible incident occurs with people being killed by a single person. The media coverage saturates everything, spreading out like rising flood waters. In the initial minutes and hours no one really knows any answers so they grab the slightest bit of speculation and put it on the air to fill the space between the re-running of the initial reports and endless video loops of flashing lights at the scene to cautious -- and often wrong -- rumors, i...
Arizona Shootings: When Speculation Is Acceptable
Not a Veteran. NOT a Veteran. *NOT* a Veteran. How many times must we go through this? I had no clue what he was talking about since, like the rest of male Americana save Demophilius, I was watching football. So, I went to my designated homepage, Drudgereport, to see what was up. Sure enough, right there in one of the links at top was the words I feared: “Military Veteran.” Ah $#!^, I thought. The link took me to a Washington Post article that indeed stated that Law Enforcement offic...
Palin, Paranoia, and Political Assassination
I don't know if I want to, or can, add anything that's not already been said in the din following Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' shooting. The act alone is jarring, though not altogether surprising—the tide of this Time Magazine article from a few months back has done nothing if not escalate.
But in the paranoic, partisan backlash that's already occurred—dotting Facebook walls, churning HuffPo and RedState articles, turning up the bleat of Talk Radio ever-more—it seems as if there ...
Movie Review: Black Swan
Two weeks ago I witnessed a crime in progress. That crime was Plagiarism, and the culprits were Natalie Portman and David Aronofsky. I was aghast as I witnessed a nearly shot-for-shot swipe of another, better movie, and one beloved by me.
Here's the plot of Black Swan: A performer/athlete is technically gifted, beautiful in movement, and virtuous -- and virginal -- in personal character. This Black Swan must compete for top honors with a "Black Swan," who represents the dark side of humanity, t...
Pima County Sheriff Dupnik Jeopardizes Justice and Must Resign Now
Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik has blathered in radio, television, and newspaper interviews non-stop since Saturday’s massacre in his county. He cannot possibly be doing his job to properly and thoroughly investigate the tragic loss of life on his watch in Pima County, Arizona. Monday , Dupnik even went so far as to blame Talk Show host Rush Limbaugh PERSONALLY for the Murders in Tucson. See report here on Real Clear Politics. On Sunday, Dupnik admitted in his interv...

Officials: Frenetic morning for rampage suspect
(01-12) 14:26 PST Tucson, Ariz. (AP) --
For Jared Loughner, the morning of the deadly shooting rampage was a blur of activity. He hustled to Walmart twice. He ran a red light, with the officer letting him off with a warning. Back home, he grabbed a black bag from the trunk of a family car and fled into the desert on foot, his suspicious father giving chase.
Later, Loughner took a cab to a Safeway Supermarket and began squeezing off round after round into the crowd.
The new details of the Walma...

Art of War, Media Messages, and Conservative Terrorists
The debate rages on, and thanks to media spin and constant false equivalencies, at least one poll has 57% of its respondents rejecting any possibility of inflammatory Speech having any influence over Jared Lee Loughner's actions on Saturday morning. Welcome to the confluence of media echoes and denial. It was predictable, this la-la-la response. Kneejerk, even. No one wants to believe that words can influence, because that would require individuals to own their own words. God forbid. This is tru...
Can't We All Get Along?
Hillary Clinton's comments today, describing Jared Lee Loughner as an Extremist, were unfortunate and are probably much regretted by now. I attribute them to jet lag and total immersion in the difficult, high pressure, multi-country trip she's undertaken, which probably caused her to lose track of the emerging portrait of the shooter as a dangerously disturbed young man. There is no comparison between Loughner's acts and Islamist Terrorism, the latter being violence undertaken in the service of ...
Minnesota Rep. to Honor Giffords
(NewsCore) - Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) announced Wednesday that he will hold a special “Congress on your Corner" meeting in his district in honor of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), who survived an Assassination attempt at her political event Saturday. The event will be similar to other meetings hosted by the Minnesota Democrat -- who is the first Muslim to be elected to Congress -- in which constituents are able to speak directly with the congressman. Jared Lee Loughner, 22, killed s...
David Frum Blames AZ Shooting on Reefer Madness
Jared Lee Loughner is accused of shooting 20 people in Tucson, Arizona. The former Bush Speechwriter who coined the term “Axis of Evil” claims a link between Jared Lee Loughner, schizophrenia and pot-smoking. Forget guns, “The Tucson shooting should remind us why we regulate Marijuana.” Much of our culture’s historic intolerance for marijuana grew out of Racism and the quack science used to justify it. Frum acknowledges in his blog post that “The connection b...
More On Loughner And Right Wing Hysteria
Several friends have written in about my item arguing that Jared Loughner is not related to right-wing Extremism. The objection, in a nutshell, is, don't you agree that right-wing rage is a serious problem?
I think it is a serious problem. I also think, despite the attempts of numerous Republicans to draw equivalences, that it's a far more serious problem than anything that occurred under George W. Bush. critics have focused on violent language and birtherism on the right. But there's a deeper ...
Louie Gohmert hits the trifecta: violent rhetoric, conspiracy theories, and guns
While it would be impossible to top the self-centered offensiveness of today's Sarah Palin video -- where she used the attempted Assassination of Gabrielle Giffords to peddle her message of victimhood -- Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) gave it his best shot, but could only manage a trifecta of stupidity.
First, his thoughts on the public comments by Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik on today's political climate:
I hope the sheriff tones his Rhetoric down.
Well, sure. Sheriff Dupnik needs to tone d...

Fox talkers demand Sheriff Dupnik produce evidence. Since when has evidence ever mattered to Fox talkers?
Bill O'Reilly stepped up last night to make his contribution to the Right's Jihad against Clarence Dupnik for speaking the truth about the environment in Arizona in which Jared Loughner's shooting rampage occurred, devoting three whole segments to running down Dupnik, including his opening "Talking Points Memo" segment in which he attacked Dupnik for mixing politics and Law Enforcement. This, from the guy who has a man-crush on Sheriff Joe Arpaio. At least the first featured a defense of Dupnik ...
