The Mama Grizzly Scorecard: Not That Great
Sarah Palin is deciding whether to be a queen or a queen maker, but the high profile races where she interjected didn’t do all that well for her.
Palin will point to a positive win-loss record—49 of her 77 Candidates triumphed, (6 races had yet to be called by Wednesday morning.) But many of the highest-profile races, where she had loudly interjected herself, her Candidates—Sharron Angle in Nevada, Christine O’Donnell in Delaware, and John Raese in West Virginia—lost.

The Mama Grizzly Scorecard
New YORK – She didn't appear on any ballot yet one big question of the Tuesday night election was how well did Sarah Palin do? Shushannah Walshe tallies her wins.
"As always, proud to be American! Thanks, Commonsense Constitutional Conservatives,u didn't sit down & shut up...u "refudiated" extreme Left"—so tweeted Sarah Palin on Election Night, demonstrating characteristic optimism in the face of what was decidedly a mixed bag for her politically.
Palin will point to a positive...
Palin Proves That "Mama Grizzly" Has Bite
If former Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska decides to run for president in 2012, she will now have plenty of help.
In New Hampshire, which holds the first Primary, Ms. Palin can count on the support of its newest senator, Kelly Ayotte. When the Presidential Campaign moves to South Carolina, the state’s New Governor, Nikki Haley, will owe her one.
And out West, Susana Martinez, the Governor-elect in New Mexico, will be ready to help during a potential General Election matchup with President Obama as...
Palin's 'Mama Grizzly' governors win
All three of Sarah Palin’s “Mama Grizzlies” won their gubernatorial races: Susana Martinez (R-NM), Mary Fallin (R-OK), and Nikki Haley (R-SC). These females also make history of their own — each becoming the first female Governor of their state. And, the victories by Martinez and Haley mark the first female Governors of color in the nation. Martinez is Hispanic and Haley is the daughter of Indian immigrants. A record number of women (10) are their party’s nominee fo...

Mama Grizzly Watch
One of the side-stories of this election will be how well Sarah Palin's adopted "Mama Grizzlies"—female Conservatives—are doing. So far, it's a mixed result. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire (who seems, well, a bit tame for Palin, but she did get her Endorsement before her primary) won big. Christine O'Donnell lost big. Most interestingly, the Candidate who first convinced the world that Palin had the golden touch, South Carolina Gubernatorial Candidate Nikki Haley, is strugg...

The TV Watch: The Grizzly Mama and Her Dancing Cub
The pundits were wrong. They suggested the results were a foregone conclusion. Plenty of people didn’t bother to vote. And at least one contender, who claimed to be “exhausted” by the grueling process, seemed almost to welcome defeat.
And yet, Tuesday’s election did contain some drama and suspense: Bristol Palin made it through another round of elimination on the ABC Reality Show “Dancing with the Stars.” Her mother, the former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, was quick to f
Statement from Miller: 'This campaign is not over!'
The following statement regarding the status of Alaska's U.S. Senate race appeared at JoeMiller.us on Wednesday morning, Nov. 3. Read it in its entirety below. The campaign remains optimistic that Joe Miller will be the next U.S. Senator from the state of Alaska. Previous write-in campaigns in Alaska have demonstrated that as much as 5 to 6 percent of returned ballots have not met the standard to be counted as a valid vote. As with any write-in campaign, the burden of execution rests with the ca...
Women not fooled by "Mama Grizzlies" meme
The weekend before last, I was at a conference of environmental justice Activists organized around freight transportation issues--primarily ports, rail, freeways & intermodal facilities. Children's lungs are the frontline of this battle, and there were plenty of real "Mama Grizzlies" there, the vast majority of them women of color, since, you know, they're the ones whose kids are expendable. Sarah Palin is so lame, I thought while sitting in one workshop with 15 or 20 such women participating ...
NoamZinn: "Not gonna happen, wouldn't be prudent at this juncture" GHW
Sorry Arianna, but this is a re-run of all the talk we heard for years how George Bush was a "genius" with his instinctive gut, Karl Rove was a "genius" with his political maneuvering, etc. They did their thing and almost ran the Republican Party off the rails. Now Palin is a "genius" communicator even though her own daughter was announcing her then plans to wed via a Tabloid. I think it would be great if the press did its job and asked the tough questions of these genius folks. “"Not gon...
Wade Norris: Time to roll out the Obama/Clinton 2012 ticket
Nothing personal against Senator Biden, but the Sarah Palin-teabag type of GOP is here to stay. Whomever the 2012 GOP ticket consists of, its probably a safe BET that one of the spots will be a Mama Grizzly -- a.k.a. Palin or Haley. Having Hillary in the Vice President slot will provide a buffer to the GOP's 'Mama Grizzly' attacks.
And, let's face it, the Midterms have shown us that the President needs to shore up the fractured base heading into his re-election.
This is not a new idea -- it ha...
Keli Goff: The 5 Women Who Mattered in the Midterms
If the 1992 Election was “The Year of the Woman,” then 2010 may well be dubbed the year of the Mama Grizzly. But a look at the nationwide results from the 2010 Midterms show a much more complex picture. There were Mama Grizzlies who roared, and others who got bit and sent back into hibernation. And there were a couple of ladies who aren’t Mama Grizzlies but who still left their imprint on the electorate this year. Below, a look at the ladies who mattered in this year’s mi...
Bringing Black to the front.
Jarrett has continued serving as a crucial bridge between the President and his base of black supporters, playing a key role in the White House's more aggressive efforts to court the black blogosphere and making herself (and the president) more accessible to media outlets and organizations serving communities of color. The result? Though we're all still analyzing voter demographic data Black voters were expected to play key roles in Democratic victories in races in California and making the diff...
So How Did the 'Mama Grizzlies' Do?
Earlier this election season, CNN declared 2010 the "year of GOP women Candidates." Sarah Palin's famed "Mama grizzlies" were grabbing headlines in House, Senate and Gubernatorial races from coast to coast. On Tuesday, some of them faltered and others flourished. Was the rising tide of GOP women exaggerated? Here's what political observers are saying: “Mama Grizzlies” cheered victories from the likes of New Hampshire Republican Senate Candidate Kelly Ayotte, South Carolina gubernator...
REPUBLICANS FACE A FUNDAMENTAL CHOICE IN HOW TO OPPOSE
The day after the election always dawns sunny and full of hope in Washington. From Representative John A. Boehner on down, Republicans talked on Wednesday about how open they were to working with the president (except, perhaps, for repealing that whole Health Care thing). Rand Paul, the next senator from Kentucky, said on MSNBC that his family was hoping to meet the Obama girls. You could almost see the two dads stretched out in front of the TV, sharing a laugh at “Phineas and Ferb.”...
The New Republican Dilemma - 2012
As exhausted and dejected pundits assess euphoric and defeated politicos who begin to envision the brave new world created by the 2010 mid-term Elections, it is becoming increasingly clear to everyone that America has truly arrived at a precarious fork in the road. The way forward on many fronts is not only going to be difficult for a dinged president but for everyone because every decision can make a critical difference for the desired outcome in 20...
Alaska plans faster count of write-in, absentee ballots in Senate race
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Even as Sen. Lisa Murkowski appeared to be ahead by a commanding margin as a write-in Candidate for re-election, her leading opponent said he was optimistic that he would ultimately win. Amid the mixed signals, Elections officials announced that they would begin manually verifying write-in Votes next week, sooner than they had initially planned. By Wednesday, with 99 percent of precincts reporting, the "Write-in Votes" category had 41 percent of the vote, compared with ...
Bad Night for Sarah Palin?
Josh Marshall: "It makes sense to be pretty careful in judging how things will affect Sarah Palin. But there's a decent argument that this is not a great night for her. Think about if Sharron Angle and Christine O'Donnell hadn't won their primaries. There's a decent chance Dems would have lost the Senate tonight. That's a pretty Big Deal. She also made a late Endorsement of John Raese in West Virginia. He got crushed. And perhaps most importantly, she went to war in a Big way with her state's s...
Speaker of the House - The Stir by CafeMom
With Sarah "Mama Grizzly" Palin flying from coast to coast giving her blessing to the myriad Republican women who were inspired to run for office because of her place on the John McCain ticket in 2008, surely this was their time to charge into office and be the conservative change they wanted to see. That's not just speculation or punditry. A recent study from the Center for Women and American Politics at Rutgers University found that while GOP women filed for elective office, including Congress...
What Happens If Sarah Palin Joe Miller Loses?
The Republican "establishment," somewhat confident in tomororow's victory, has been gnashing some of its teeth over the possibility of Sarah Palin, 2012 Republican nominee. The flurry of agita — Will she run? How can she be stopped? Do the skills of a really popular Internet commenter translate into electoral success?" — rests on an assumption of political strength that is being challenged in Alaska's Senate Race. Palin's hand-picked Candidate, Joe Miller, is locked in a battle with ...
Sarah Palin travels to W. Virginia to support GOP Senate candidate John Raese - Los Angeles Times
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin hit West Virginia on Saturday, campaigning on behalf of Republican John Raese, who is locked in a close Senate race against Gov. Joe Manchin. “Mountain Mamas,” Palin said greeting the crowd. “Is that anything close to mama grizzlies?" she asked, using the name she gave a group of conservative female Candidates who have challenged the GOP establishment and are running with mixed success in the Midterm Elections Tuesday. Palin and her husband Todd t...
Sarah Palin, Murkowski Volunteer Separated At Birth?
What is this? This Associated Press photo is the kind sure to cause many doubletakes. What the heck is Sarah Palin doing at a phone banking operation for her nemesis Sen. Lisa Murkowski? Well, actually it's not Palin. And, no, it's not Tina Fey. The AP identifies the Murkowski volunteer as Jan Cox. In profile, she definitely resembles Mama Grizzly #1. Palin, of course, supports the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate seat, Joe Miller. He's running against Murkowski, who he defeated in the Rep...
Oklahoma gov candidate knocked for being a childfree woman
Oklahoma Governor Candidates Mary Fallin (left) and Jari AskinsThe Oklahoma Governor's race has two highly experienced female politicians squaring off against each other -- Republican Mary Fallin and Democrat Jari Askins. But at a recent debate, when asked what set her apart as a Candidate, Fallin didn't start off by talking about her experience in Congress or as Lieutenant Governor. Instead, she said, "First of all, being a mother, having Children, raising a family" -- an apparent dig at Askin...
Joanne Bamberger: Five Things Politicians Shouldn't Forget About Women Voters on Election Day
For the last year and a half, I've been working on a book about the increasing involvement of mothers in the world of politics as a result of our new Social-media world. When I submitted my manuscript (what feels like a decade ago!), few were really writing about or analyzing the idea of Motherhood and politics. I did a lot of research to go along with the essays I'd collected for Mothers of Intention , but it was pretty manageable even in a post- Sarah Palin world.
Something happened in the l...
