Political Quote of the Day

Republicans take over House, dilute cuts
By Thomas Ferraro and Andy Sullivan
WASHINGTON | Wed Jan 5, 2011 12:45pm EST
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republicans scaled back plans for deep cuts in Government Spending as they took power in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, diluting a key promise that helped them to victory in November's election.
A senior Republican also signaled the party could work with the administration of President Barack Obama, a Democrat, to avert a Debt crisis in the coming months.
"Our spending has caught up...
HA! Weaker Pelosis parting shot Deficit reduction has been a high priority
HA! Weaker Pelosi’s parting shot - “Deficit reduction has been a high priority”
Nancy Pelosi proves that Botox rots the brain. Pelosi also proves that Liberalism/progressivism is a Mental Disorder. San Fran Nan had her final Press Conference as House Speaker today. And according to Fox Nation, Pelosi had the audacity to say:
“Deficit reduction has been a high priority for us. It is our mantra, pay-as-you-go.”
WHAT THE F? Lets examine the FACTS. Democrats took over C...
Democrat Blames Reagan, Bushes For Deficits
(CNSNews.com) - In his last day as House Majority Leader, Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) put much of the blame for America’s growing Debt on past Republican administrations, including former President Ronald Reagan. “Ronald Reagan came in and adopted an economic program that created $1.4 Trillion in Deficits over the next eight years,” Hoyer said in a Capitol Hill Press Conference on Tuesday, where he appeared with other members of the Democratic House Leadership. “George...
Rep. Ross criticizes Republican rules package related to pay-go rules
Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.), co-chairman of the fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog Coalition, criticized the Republicans' rules package for letting Trillions of dollars be added to the Debt.
"This rules package, while there are a lot of good things in it, threatens to undermine all of the hard work we have done by allowing nearly $5 trillion in Government Spending to go unpaid for," Ross said Wednesday in a statement. "That’s $5 trillion the Republicans want to add to the National Debt....
Worried About the National Debt? Put It On Your Credit Card
The National Debt is growing at a rate of some $4 billion dollars a day as the 112th Congress heads to Capitol Hill wringing their hands over how to slash spending. But the United States Treasury has a simple solution for how you can help: spend more. Just put the federal Debt on your personal Credit Card. You can pay for it later. With as little effort as a few mouse clicks, Private Citizens can give Uncle Sam their spare change - or their Bank Account numbers. Since 1961, the Treasury's Bureau...
Pelosi: Hey, we were all about deficit reduction!
When a leader leaves an organization, or at least leadership of it, one expects a rather rosy take on the leader’s stewardship of it. But come on:
Deficit reduction has been a high priority for us. It is our mantra, pay-as-you-go.
Fox makes sure everyone understands the context:
When the Pelosi Democrats took control of Congress on January 4, 2007, the National Debt stood at $8,670,596,242,973.04. The last day of the 111th Congress and Pelosi’s Speakership on December 22, 2010 the ...
Will He Say He Has No Choice or Will He Use Seigniorage?
The media and much of the blogosphere are framing the coming Debt ceiling decision as one in which the Republican-majority House may refuse to extend the Federal Debt ceiling, thus forcing both a Government shut-down, and also a possible default of the US in paying its Debt obligations to its creditors. Republicans saying they will not vote to extend the ceiling see this as an opportunity to force Spending Cuts out of the Democrats and the Obama Administration. This second round of hostage-takin...
The Growing Social Security and Medicare Problem
It’s the beginning of a New Year, meaning crowded gyms, commercial breaks filled with weight-loss ads, and a glass-half-full attitude about the upcoming year. That glass half full should be just enough to dissolve my Alka Seltzer, because all this positivity is enough to give me heartburn.
You’ll have to pardon my less than cheery spirits. I am, after all, in the minority amongst my generation, who happen to be the most optimistic age group when it comes to our financial circumstan...
N.Y. governor unveils emergency debt plan
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The newly inaugurated Governor of New York proposed a wave of belt-tightening measures Wednesday as part of what he called a fundamental realignment of the state.
Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat who assumed office Jan. 1, laid out the emergency fiscal plan designed to help bridge a $9 billion Budget gap in fiscal 2012 during his inaugural State of the State Speech.

How to cut $1 trillion from Pentagon
Lawrence Korb is a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress. He served as Assistant Secretary of defense in the Reagan Administration. Make no mistake: The nation's Debt threatens our National Security. That's not just my opinion. Admiral Michael Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is among those who have warned that the unsustainable accumulation of Debt will put the nation at risk by sapping the vitality of our economy. The Pentagon cannot be left out of the hard choice...
Marco Rubio Sworn In as U.S. Senator
Shortly after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, and according to tradition, Marco Rubio walked down the aisle of the Senate floor with Senator Bill Nelson, D-FL on his left and retired Sen. Mel Martinez on his right. After reaching Vice President Joe Biden at the right of the Senate President's desk, Rubio stepped up, took the oath, and became Florida's newest senator. "I'm here to be the United States senator from Florida and the best senator I can. I mean that," Rubio told reporters earlier that mor...
Finally The Day Has Arrived When Nancy Pelosi Loses Her Speakers Gavel And The Constitution Is Taken Seriously In The Peoples Ho
Today is finally the day that Nancy Pelosi loses her Speaker’s gavel. But she hasn’t gone quietly. She has been engaging in a massive Public Relations campaign to re-write her dismal record with outright lies.
Yesterday, Pelosi demonstrated how far she is willing to stretch the truth. At her final Press Conference as House Speaker (thank goodness) Pelosi portrayed herself and fellow Democrats as Deficit hawks:
Deficit reduction has been a high priority for us. It is our mantra, pay...
New Senate Republican Says Defense Budget Could Be Cut
Pennsylvania's incoming senator, Pat Toomey, widely known as a fiscal hawk, says he is prepared to work with Democrats to "ratchet back the spending" and indicated he is even prepared to look at trimming a sacred cow, the Budget for the Defense Department. The economic crisis has refocused some Republicans, including newly-minted House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., prompting them to step gingerly into this arena that is often fraught with political peril, always careful to reiterate, as To...
Time to grab the third rail, Madame Governor
Soon, Governor Martinez sends the 2011 Legislature her Budget for fiscal 2012. At last count, she is looking to plug a $400 million gap. She campaigned on the promise that she would not make Spending Cuts to education or Medicaid. Read my lips: ‘Where are you going to find $400 million to plug the gap, Madame Governor?’ The “Third Rail” of politics refers to extremely Controversial issues in which it is observed that, when acting unilaterally, “touch it, and you die...

House GOP's Plan: Vote Early and Often Against The Obama Agenda
A twenty day period of votes against the Obama Agenda, which of course are not effectual on their own (as Democrats still control the Senate). But they hope to both demonstrate that they're carrying through on promises to voters and force Obama and the Democrats in the Senate closer to a Tea Party view of the world.
Almost as soon as they take control of the House at noon Wednesday, Republicans will embark on a 20-day plan aimed at undoing major aspects of President Obama's agenda as they seek ...
Speaker Boehner takes the gavel
Eric Cantor knows best? The GOP moves on Health Care. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) didn't give a full-on snort as he did on "60 Minutes." But his expressions of emotion were plainly apparent, and I'm glad he didn't try to hide them. To quote Vice President Biden in another context, Boehner's accomplishment is "a big #&@!% deal." Now comes the hard part -- governing. Before handing over the Speaker's gavel, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) read through the litany of Legislation the ...
Speaker Pelosis Final Insult: Deficit Reduction Has Been a High Priority (Video)
As a final insult to the American People before she hands over the gavel, Speaker Pelosi told reporters today that, “Deficit reduction has been a high priority.” At her final Press Conference as House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said, “Deficit reduction has been a high priority for us. It is our mantra, pay-as-you-go.” The numbers tell a different story. When the Pelosi Democrats took control of Congress on January 4, 2007, the National Debt stood at $8,670,596,242,973....
Arizona state government showing you the money
If you’re wondering how the state of Arizona is spending your money, you can now go online and find out. Thanks to a new law that required the state to build a transparency website, openbooks.az.gov came online last week, and offers a treasure trove of information. A quick search of the website shows that the state spent a total of $33.6 billion in Fiscal Year 2010. Over half of that, $17.7 billion, was categorized as welfare payments. The state paid $972 million in interest charges on sta...

Manhattan Moment: Focus on spending, not a debt limit showdown
As the president prepares his State of the Union Speech, he must worry that another regular Washington event will overshadow it: the vote to increase the National Debt ceiling. But instead of concentrating on this figure, the president and congressional leaders should focus on The Economy. That way, global markets - the real Regulators of the Debt ceiling -- will be less likely to decide that we can't borrow any more, even if the pols say it's OK to do so. Today's Debt Limit is nearly $14.3 tril...
