Schwarzenegger: Being a governor cost about $200M in lost film pay, expenses
Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who just left office due to term limits, told a newspaper in his native Austria that his seven years as the "Governator" had cost him a pretty penny.
Adding up his expenses and lost revenue from taking a Hollywood hiatus, Schwarzenegger estimates he lost "probably more than $200 million."
But, he insisted, "it was more than worth it."
California, meanwhile, is running a $25.4 billion Budget Deficit.
"What was much worse [than the lost income] was t...

Ronald Reagan had Alzheimer's while he was President, son says in new book
Former President Ronald Reagan had Alzheimer's Disease during his Second Term in office, his son claims in a new book.
Ron Reagan says that if his father's illness had been diagnosed while he was President, he would have given up control of the country.
"I've seen no evidence that my father (or anyone else) was aware of his medical condition while he was in office," Reagan wrote in his book "My Father at 100."
In excerpts from the book, first released by U.S. News and World Report Friday, Reag...
State has plan to save child care subsidies
Assembly Speaker John Pérez will announce today that state officials have found a way to save child care Subsidies for 55,000 low-income families - a program that then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger tried to eliminate last year.
The Subsidies are available to parents who were formerly on cash assistance but now have jobs or are in school. Supporters had argued that eliminating the Subsidies was shortsighted and could ultimately cost Taxpayers more than keeping it, because many parents would quit ...
An older, bolder Jerry Brown deserves kudos for his budget plan
It's a different Gov. Jerry Brown we're seeing these days — a subtle but significant difference between Brown I and Brown II.
The Brown who was Governor at age 36 would not have been as bold — as calmly willing to stick his neck way out — as the 72-year-old version.
The contrast—along with a stark stylistic difference between Brown and predecessor Arnold Schwarzenegger — was evident at a news conference Monday. The new Governor unveiled his cuts-taxes-and-shuffle r...

Lawmakers getting new cars despite push to pare California's vehicle fleet
Reporting from Sacramento —
Lawmakers have spent at least $259,000 in Taxpayer funds on new SUVs and other vehicles for themselves in the last year despite a push by the new Governor and the last one to cut California's fleet amid the state's Financial Crisis.
Newly elected Assemblyman Luis Alejo (D- Salinas) is taking delivery of a 2011 Ford Escape Hybrid, worth $37,269. More than $32,000 went to buy a 2011 Ford Edge for freshman Tim Donnelly (R-Twin Peaks), a "Tea Party" Activist and ...
Gov. Jerry Brown's budget plan a 'good starting point,' nonpartisan analyst says
Reporting from Sacramento —
Gov. Jerry Brown's Controversial spending blueprint got a welcome boost Wednesday when California's chief Budget analyst called it a "good starting point" for tackling the state's chronic Deficits.
INTERACTIVE: Try your hand at eliminating the state deficit
The review is far more flattering than the nonpartisan legislative analyst's office offered for many of former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's spending plans. In particular, the Budget expert approves of Brow...
Spider-Man: Your Friendly Neighborhood Sissy?
There are many who bemoan Hollywood’s tendency to cannibalize itself with endless sequels, prequels, and reboots. I am not one of them.
Film is a child of theater. Part of the pleasure in attending a new production of a play you have seen before is considering the take of a fresh group of artists on the same old material. We wouldn’t fault a theater troupe for yet another production of Romeo & Juliet. So why fault filmmakers for remaking an old film? Quality is certainly affect...
Donna Hitchens ready to cut back on workload
After 20 years on the San Francisco Superior Court bench, the nation's first openly Lesbian elected judge says it's time to cut back on work, visit the kids and go fishing.
"It's a perfect time for me. I can work six or seven days a month and pursue other loves and interests," Donna Hitchens said Friday.
Despite retiring in November, the 63-year-old Hitchens still works part-time as a visiting judge on the court she headed as presiding judge in 2003-04. There is still a full-time judge in the...
University of California President Mark Yudof: The BMOC
Mark Yudof became president of the University of California in 2008. Some timing. Since then, the university has seen its state funding, which accounts for about 13% of its operating Budget, cut again and again. Now Gov. Jerry Brown wants another $500 million out of UC's bottom line. That's a 20% drop in state dollars. With this cut, for the first time, Students will shoulder more of UC's costs than California will. Yudof is a realist and a self-deprecating fellow who jokes about his girth. (If ...
George Bronk Used Facebook To Hack Women's Emails
Sacramento, Calif. — In a cautionary tale for users of social-networking sites, a California man has admitted using Personal Information he gleaned from Facebook to hack into women's e-mail accounts, then send nude pictures of them to everyone in their Address Book.
The California Attorney General's office said Friday that George Bronk, 23, commandeered the e-mail accounts of dozens of women in the U.S. and England. He then scanned the women's "sent" folders for nude and seminude photos ...
Tweet Of The Day - Peter LaBarbera
And I have repeatedly tweeted Porno Pete, calling on him to denounce his BFF Scott Lively for hiring a convicted child molester to work with school Children. Lively has been the subject of numerous praising posts on LaBarbera's site and the two have appeared together at an event held by the SPLC-certified hate group, MassResistance. Last year, MassResistance endorsed Scott Lively as a write-candidate for Governor of Massachusetts, but they too have yet to comment about the arrest at Lively's c...

Analyst Calls Brown Budget 'Good Starting Point'. Yawn.
In a report today, the Legislative Analyst Office has declared Gov. Brown's Budget "a good starting point" for addressing the state Deficit. This has drawn quick headlines and media praise that suggest the LAO represents validation that Brown's Budget may get on us the path to fixing things in California. I suggest that it's worth holding the champagne. I went back and re-read the LAO's executive summary of Gov. Schwarzenegger's budget, and the language is remarkably similar. Consider ...
HILARIOUS Video: Why Actor Boobs Should NEVER Be Governor
Despite many Conservatives who gushed profusely over him when he first explored running for California Governor, I never supporter Arnold Schwarzenegger and knew he’d stink as “Caulifornia’s” CEO. And, of course, a lib Republican like him brought the state an even more horrible liberal governor like Jerry Moonbeam Brown. But, after he exited office, Schwarzenegger reminded us once again why he should never have been governor. This is pretty funny. Buh-by...

California moves to keep vetoed child-care program alive
Tens of thousands of low-income California Children will continue to receive child care despite former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger 's Veto of $256 milllion for the program, Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez announced today.
The state has identified $60 million in unspent Department of Education funds to bankroll the care until April 1, and Gov. Jerry Brown 's proposed Budget would pick up the tab after that, John A. Pérez said.
The goal is to assist nearly 60,000 Children in a progra...

Núñez commutation sparks bill to limit power
Former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's Controversial decision to reduce the voluntary Manslaughter sentence of a political ally's son has sparked a Constitutional Amendment targeting the Governor's commutation powers.
The proposed amendment, authored by Assemblyman Allan Mansoor, R-Costa Mesa, would require that the Governor's office give interested parties 30 days' notice before granting a pardon, reprieve or sentence commutation.
As one of his final acts as governor, Schwarzenegger commuted t...
