American People: With Martin Luther King, Jr.
PHOTOS: Martin Luther King Jr. in pictures
Day right around the corner, attempts to misuse and/or whitewash his legacy are to be expected, particularly on the right. But this, from Defense Department General Counsel Jeh Johnson, is brazen even in the annals of misappropriations of King: WASHINGTON, Jan. 13, 2011 - If Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were alive today, would he understand why the United States is at war? If Martin Luther King Were Alive Today, He'd Be Just Like Me
You know all those articles that purport to say what George Orwell would believe if he were alive today, in which Orwell turns out to have had a change of heart on every significant subject where the author disagrees with him? You can do that to Martin Luther King too:
If Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were alive today, would he understand why the United States is at war?
Jeh C. Johnson, the Defense Department's General Counsel, posed that question at today's Pentagon commemoration of King's legacy...

Al Qaeda's tentacles
Al Qaeda has just released the latest in its series of how-to guides for Jihadists in the West who want to Murder without the bother of flying to Pakistan to be trained. What Weve Learned from WikiLeaks
As the U.S. government continues to try to shut down Wikileaks — preferably, it seems, without having to actually charge Assange or the website with an actual crime — it’s important not to forget how much we’ve learned through WikiLeaks’ efforts. Here is a (partial) list created by Greg Mitchell, who has been keeping a daily log of all things Wikileaks at The Nation: § The Saudis, our allies, are among the leading funders of international Terrorism. §...

Obama speech recalls Reagan
Two weeks after President Barack Obama returned from a Hawaiian Vacation spent reading a 900-page biography of Ronald Reagan, he delivered a Speech in Tucson, Ariz., Wednesday that incorporated, but didn’t parrot, the gilded, common-touch oratory of the 40th president.
The pageantry and patter of the Oval Office that came so naturally to Reagan and Bill Clinton haven’t come quite as easily to Obama, an electrifying campaign performer who is finally mastering the intimate, idiosync...

Desensitizing Americans To Violence
Since the early days of the American Revolution, the Military methods of desensitizing people has taken on a life of it's own. I remember reading that after the Revolutionary War they found many muskets and rifles among the dead, which had several "loads & shots" still stuffed in the barrel; the gun never fired. It appeared that Soldiers were not keen on shooting their enemy; their friends, their countrymen and neighbors, and they would load their guns over and over again. There appeared t...

Obama has been mugged by the reality of Gitmo
Just two days after his inauguration, President Obama signed an Executive Order calling for the closing of Guantanamo Bay detention facility within one year. Nearly two years later, it remains open. Why did the administration fail to meet its goal? The truth is that Obama's order was driven by ideology, not reality. His left-wing base insisted that Guantanamo be shuttered. But he and his staff knew little about the facility. It took a full year for a Task Force to review the government files o...
