Libertarian Party of Georgia Asks Republican Senators, Why So Much Pork?
This week, Congress contemplates passage of a $1.1 Trillion omnibus spending bill. With many criticizing the inclusion of 6,488 Earmarks just weeks after Senate Republicans self-imposed an earmark Moratorium, the Libertarian Party of Georgia is asking Republican Senators Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss why they have 24 and 42 earmarks, respectively, in the proposed Legislation.
In both the 2008 and 2010 re-election campaigns of the Incumbent Senators, they stressed their fiscally co
John Cornyn Up In Arms Over All The Earmarks Not Requested By John Cornyn
The Lame Duck session of Congress wends on and on! Today, the bitter battle is enjoined over the omnibus Budget bill, and the chief complainant is Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas). See, Cornyn is very upset about all of the Earmarks that are in the bill. And it's easy to see why! A few weeks ago, he was one of 39 senators who voted to ban the practice entirely, in an effort that was ultimately unsuccessful.
Of course, as I've already documented, many of the people who have long complained about earm...

UPDATE 2-Democrats push on spending as gov't shutdown looms
Thu Dec 16, 2010 5:23pm EST
* Prospects for bill uncertain
* Shutdown looms on Sunday
* Reid blasts Republicans as "hypocrites" (New throughout)
By Andy Sullivan
WASHINGTON, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Democrats in Congress prepared on Thursday for a high-stakes game of chicken over spending as they moved toward a weekend vote that, if it fails, could lead to a shutdown of wide swaths of the U.S. government.
With current funding due to expire at midnight on Saturday, Democrats set aside tentative plan...
Reid defends earmarks, calls Republicans hypocrites for opposition to omnibus bill (Daily Caller)
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid reiterated his commitment to earmark spending Thursday, calling Republicans “hypocrites” for trying to stop an omnibus spending bill full of GOP-requested pork from reaching the Senate floor.
“We have a constitutional duty to do congressionally directed spending and I don’t want to give up that responsibility,” Reid told reporters. “I can’t understand why some of our more conservative members here want to give up their...
The massive Omnibus spending bill no Democrat has read, but Democrats want to ram through passage, will cost taxpayers $18 BILLI
The Omnibus spending bill that no Democrat admits reading, but Democrats want to ram through passage anyway, has $18 BILLION in pork Earmarks for all sorts of crazy and needless things…ranging from money for the Ted Kennedy Memorial Driving School (not what it’s really called, but when someone’s honoring a murderer for anything, I refuse to play along and call it by its actual name) to a Women’s Center at a College for Women (which is like allocating funds for a Leftist S...
NEW VIDEO: Pork-filled Spending Bill Just More of the Same
As we reported this week, Congress is considering a new $1.1 Trillion omnibus spending bill. This 2,000 page monster is the result of a refusal by Congress to pass a Budget and a partisan desire to bind the hands of the next Congress with an expansive spending bill rather than a short-term continuing resolution. Sen. Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) office has demonstrated how a simple, one-page spending bill could suffice. But despite a sharp rebuke of out-of-control spending from voters duri...
In Defense of Pork: Reid Vows to Fight Obama, GOP on Earmarks
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid today mounted a passionate defense of Earmarks, hitting out at President Obama and Republicans alike. Reid said Republicans who oppose the massive $1.1 Trillion omnibus spending bill that includes their own pork projects are hypocrites. “You can’t have it both ways,” he railed. “You can all look it up in the dictionary yourself, but I bet if you went to ‘H’ in the dictionary and found ‘hypocrite,’ under that would ...

Senators vote to ban earmarks -- then grab them
WASHINGTON—More than two dozen senators, most Republicans, who recently voted to ban homestate projects are claiming hundreds of Earmarks in an almost $1.3 Trillion bill to fund most federal programs and agencies into next fall.
Republicans are calling the 1,924-page bill a pork-filled mess and accusing Democrats of trying to jam it through Congress with minimal debate and little if any opportunity to make changes. Some GOP senators voiced outrage but made no effort to dump their own earm...
Who will get away with the Omnibus snow job?
Times are most interesting in DC, while the North of the country is cold but dry, while DC is covered in snow. The snow is in the buildings of the legislative branch as much as it outside. You see we have the unbridled farce of Republicans who eagerly put Earmarks into the Omnibus bill to be voted on, saying they will vote against it. Or at least some of them are doing so. Others seem tone deaf and carrying on as if Nov. 2010 was just like any other election. There is a subtle sorting process go...
Senators Vote to Ban Earmarks - Then Grab Them
Thursday, December 16, 2010
By Andrew Taylor, Associated Press
Washington (AP) - Twenty-five senators, most Republicans, who recently voted to ban homestate projects are claiming hundreds of Earmarks in an almost $1.3 Trillion bill to fund most federal programs and agencies until next year.
Republicans are calling the 1,924-page bill a pork-filled mess and accusing Democrats of trying to jam it through Congress with minimal debate and little if any opportunity to make changes. Some GOP sena...
Republicans plan to cut House office budgets
WASHINGTON — Saying they'll lead by example, Republicans in the House of Representatives are prepared to cut individual office budgets by 5 percent next year, giving members less money for travel, employee salaries and rental space.
The next House Speaker, Rep. John Boehner of Ohio, is touting the plan, saying it will be one of the first votes taken by the new Congress in January.
"The speaker-designate has spoken. ... We will follow his lead," said Republican Rep. Dan Lung...
John Kerry Complains About Reading Omnibus Spending Bill
“Lets just chew up the time of the United States Senate keeping everybody up all night reading a bill rather than working on it,” said Senator John Kerry on the floor of the Senate while sarcastically deriding the push by Republicans to read the entire Omnibus bill before it’s debated and voted on. If Kerry is worried that actually reading these bills takes up too much time, then maybe Democrats should have gone through the budgeting process before the election. Normally the Co...

Sens. John Cornyn, R-Texas, and John Thune, R-S.D., held a Press Conference today to rip the Democrats' new 1,924-page, $1.1 Trillion omnibus bill for containing $8 billion worth of Earmarks.

Dingy Harry Reid: Obama is trying to steal power! Earmarks are a constitutional duty
Dingy Harry Reid: Obama is trying to steal power! Earmarks are a constitutional duty
This is comical. Harry Reid accuses Obama of trying to “steal power” while claiming earmarks (aka pork barrel spending) are a “constitutional duty.” I don’t remember Obama ever opposing this ridiculous pork filled omnibus bill, nor do I remember any part of the constitution stating the earmarks (pork) are required by the Congress of the United States. Maybe some progressive libera...
Reid defends earmarks, threatens work until Jan. 5
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid took to the Senate mics Thursday afternoon to defend the practice of Earmarks, saying it was Congress's Constitutional Right to spend money and vowing to fight for that right against both Republicans and the Executive Branch. "I am convinced that I don't want to give up more power to White House - whether it's George Bush or Barack Obama," Reid said. "And I'm going to fight as hard as I can against President Obama on these earmarks; and my Republican colleagues ...
Ron Wyden Cancer Surgery Endangers Democrats' Lame-Duck Wish List
Sen. Ron Wyden, a Democrat from Oregon, announced Thursday that has been diagnosed with early-stage Prostate Cancer. But in a surprise to many of his colleagues, Wyden, 61, will undergo surgery at Johns Hopkins University Hospital next week at precisely the time Democrats will be trying to lock down votes on the START nuclear arms reduction treaty, a Repeal of the Military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, the DREAM Act, and possibly a $1.1 Trillion bill to fund the Federal Government for the n...
McCain tees up hours-long bill-reading marathon
When Republican Sen. Jim DeMint quietly threatened yesterday to burn up hours of floor time by making a clerk read the entire START Treaty aloud, Senate leaders negotiated their way around it behind the scenes. But they may not be so lucky later tonight. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., hasn't been quiet about his intention to make the Senate clerk read the the large spending bill that funds government operations for next year -- a bill Reid is expected to bring to the floor at about 6pm ET tonight. M...

Reid defends earmarks in omnibus
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday defended the Senate’s right to earmark spending bills, even as Republicans threatened to slow the Senate to a crawl by reading a 1,900 page appropriations bill loaded with thousands of special projects.
Holding up a pocket-sized copy of the Constitution, Reid told reporters that we have a “constitutional duty to dole out congressionally-directed spending” and blasted Senate Republicans for railing against Earmarks they requested ...
