GOP White House field needs to dethrone Huckabee in Iowa
A recent survey shows Mike Huckabee remains the darling of Iowa Republicans.
The former Arkansas Governor has been taciturn about whether he plans to run again in 2012 for the GOP presidential nomination, but that hasn't tempered enthusiasm for him in the lead-off Caucus state.
Huckabee, who came out on top in the 2008 Iowa caucuses, remains the front-runner, according to a new survey by Public Policy Polling. He took 30 percent of the vote compared to 18 percent for Mitt Romney, who was run...

Huckabee's Strengths
It's still too early for these polls to mean much, but a new PPP poll finds Huck currently ahead in Iowa - a state he won last cycle:
The key to Huckabee's success is the ability to unite the disparate ideological factions of the Republican Party. 31% of voters think the party's too liberal and with them Huckabee has a 26-21 lead over Gingrich, with Palin a little surprisingly coming in further back at 16%. 48% are comfortable with where the party is ideologically and they go for H...

Rating the Republicans in Iowa
Our early Iowa polling looks very similar to how things went in the state in 2008 and there's a reason for that: with the exception of Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin voters in the state don't really know any of the new folks who they may be able to choose from in 2012 very well.
John Thune, Mitch Daniels, and Mike Pence could all make a strong impact in Iowa as fresh Midwestern faces if they end up getting into the race. But for now it's pretty much impossible to measure their potential impact ...

Mitt Romney leads in Nevada Republican presidential primary poll
Public Policy Polling is out today with one of the first early presidential primary polls in Nevada, showing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney leading the early Republican pack.
The numbers aren’t much of a surprise. Romney was the only Candidate to build a campaign organization in Nevada in 2008. He still has a strong following of invested supporters.
Interestingly, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin trails him by 13 percentage points, dispelling some of the notion that Nevada is a strong te...

Ensign seriously endangered in primary
Nevada Republican insiders hope that John Ensign will voluntarily step aside rather than seeking a third term in the Senate but even if he doesn't his chances of winning another term are pretty small. Asked who they want their Senate Candidate to be next year from a laundry list of candidates just 20% pick Ensign, with Dean Heller leading the way at 30%.
A majority of Republicans still approve of Ensign- 53% to 30% who disapprove. But there's an increasing sense even with GOP voters who are hap...
