Rep. Giffords Had a Husband!
Via Sociological Images, three news writers -- one on the Fox News website (above), one at the Orlando Sentinel, and one at the Galveston County Daily News -- really, really wanted you to know that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was wounded Saturday in a shooting that killed six, was married to an Astronaut; they all mentioned it in the headline. The Fox story, which was later expanded, actually had a picture of her husband, Captain Mark Kelly , instead of her at the top.
There are certainly good ...

Russ Belville: Arizona Shooter Loughner Used Marijuana... So What?
As you may know by now, in a tragic act of insane violence, Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords was targeted for Assassination, but survived the point-blank gunshot allegedly fired by Jared Lee Loughner, a 22-year-old man whose rambling Internet paranoia calls his sanity into question. Loughner also allegedly fired into the crowd, killing a 9-year-old girl (born on 9/11/2001, incidentally), a federal Circuit Court judge, a Giffords Staffer, and three others, and wounding several more. All of us at...
'McCarthyism' it isn't
'McCarthyism' IT ISN'T.... I expect conservative to circle the wagons during a tense time, but Bill Kristol is throwing around some odd Rhetoric.
A conservative pundit on Monday ripped liberals who have suggested that Sarah Palin is to blame for the shooting tragedy in Arizona.
During an appearance on C-SPAN's "Washington Journal," Bill Kristol of the conservative-leaning Weekly Standard magazine called the criticism of the former Alaska Governor "a disgrace."
He said there is no proof that J...

We Can Not Fear Free and Open Debate
My family and I were shocked and saddened when we learned of the attack on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, her staff and constituents. Gabrielle is a hard worker, a talented legislator and a genuinely dear person. She is universally liked in the House and every member who served with her feels deeply for her, her family and all those involved. We are praying for her recovery, the recovery of all those injured and comfort for the families of the fallen.
This attack was an unspeakable act of violence a...
NASA Ames scientists discover Earth-sized planet
The place is inhospitable, with molten temperatures and possibly clouds of melted silicon. But a discovery across the galaxy is giving hope to searchers of intelligent life.
A team led by NASA Ames researchers has confirmed the existence of the first rocky planet outside our solar system. Kepler-10b is closest in size to Earth of 519 extra-solar planets discovered so far. It is about 1½ times the Earth's diameter and speeding around a star similar to our sun in the constellation Cygnus, about...
Moon revealed to have an Earth-like core
Uncovering details about the lunar core is critical for developing accurate models of The Moon’s formation. The data sheds light on the evolution of a lunar dynamo — a natural process by which our moon may have generated and maintained its own strong magnetic field. The team’s findings suggest the moon possesses a solid, iron-rich inner core with a radius of nearly 150 miles and a fluid, primarily liquid-iron outer core with a radius of roughly 205 miles. Where it differs from...
400 Volunteers On Board for One-Way Trip to Mars
Last fall, the Journal of Cosmology published an article by a couple of scientists making the case for one-way trips to the planet Mars. The idea so tickled the imagination of readers that 400 have written in to volunteer, according to FoxNews.com. The article, co-authored by Dirk Schulze-Makuch of Washington State University, and Paul Davies of Arizona State University, argue that humans must begin colonizing another planet to hedge against the possibility of a catastrophe that wipes out life ...
Dem leader: Alleged shooter sought 'Second Amendment remedy'
Rep. James Clyburn said it is impossible not to connect fiery campaign Rhetoric to the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.).
The number three-ranking House Democrat invoked the Rhetoric of a Tea Party Senate Candidate in describing the actions of the man accused of shooting Giffords (D-Ariz.).
"He saw a Second Amendment remedy and that's what occurred here and there is no way not to make that connection," Clyburn said during an interview with the Charleston Post and Courier.
