An Democratic Congresswoman is Shot in Arizona
Arizona Congressman Gabrielle Giffords, a moderate Democrat who stirred the wrath of right-wingers with her vote for Health Care reform but was narrowly reelected in November, was shot by a gunman Saturday in what looks to have been as Assassination attempt at a community event in Tucson. A target of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's wrath during the 2010 campaign, Giffords was one of the twenty House members whose district was marked with a target in a SarahPAC campaign message that had Pali...
Arizona Male Who Shot Congresswoman Had Radical Links
Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords remains in critical condition after a gunman shot her in the head, as well as more than a dozen others, including six dead. Authorities note that Jared Loughner had been reading up on White Power and other Hate Group movements prior to the attack.
In spite of that, 22-year-old Jared Loughner had largely flown under the radar of Law Enforcement, chiefly because of the lack of direct activity, as noted by Fox News. The Group, American Renaissance, would have target
You Say Sarah Palin's Just Not Extreme Enough? How About Michele Bachmann for President?
It is no secret that the most enthusiastic encouragement of a presidential bid by Sarah Palin comes from the Obama White House. No Republican with her level of name recognition polls worse than Palin in a head-to-head race with the Democratic president. Indeed, fresh surveys by Public Policy Polling suggest that in much of the country Palin "would would lose by the biggest margin of any Republican Presidential nominee since Barry Goldwater." This, of course, only makes Palin more appealing to th...
Happy Hour Roundup
* Takedown of the day: Rick Brookhiser on the fantasy that Rudy Giuliani has any chance of becoming the 2012 GOP nominee. Short, but brutal.
* Jonathan Cohn is optimstic that Dems are finally showing some fight on Health Care.
* But Gallup finds Americans favor Repeal 46-40, though with 14 percent Undecided, there's still plenty of room for either side to make real gains. Settle in for a long fight.
* Reality check of the day: Ezra Klein on the real reasons health reform may be in trouble.

Rep. Michelle Bachmann: Im Going to Iowa. Theres Your Answer
And the question was……are you running for President? (Star Tribune) — Rep. Michele Bachmann gave her most direct answer yet on Friday when asked if she was running for president: “I am going to Iowa,” she said. “There’s your answer. I am going to Iowa.” Bachmann’s response, in an interview with ABC News on Friday, was the strongest statement the Minnesota Republican has made indicating that she’s interested in a White House run. “...
Bachmann: Liberals also welcome at legal summits
Minneapolis—U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann said Friday that liberal commentators and legal experts would be just as welcome as Conservatives to participate in a series of constitutional discussions she is organizing for members of Congress.
The Minnesota Republican and founder of the congressional Tea Party Caucus drew criticism after Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, one of the most conservative members of the High Court, agreed to appear at the first event Jan. 24. Some legal experts no...
Kardashians Have Multi-Million Dollar Date to Keep with Court in Fresno
The ubiquitous Kardashians, when last we reported on them here at UNCOVERAGE.net, were ready to debut their new Kardashian pre-paid debit card. The bad publicity and possibly illegality so rattled the girlzzzzzzzzzzzz that they backed out of their contract. But now the Revenue Resource Group, LLC Credit Card company is suing them for breaching the two-year MasterCard-approved deal. “The Dash Dolls,” - Kim, Khloe, Kourtney and Kris - or their attorneys, we assu...
The Silly Hat Throw Season
The Silly Hat Throw Season is now in full swing. Presidential flagpoles face metal fatigue from so many names going up and down them. Everyone’s political vanity is loosed in this season, and a media now constructed to avoid serious political discussion for as long as possible is more than willing to play along.
There are about 10-12 reasonably serious potential Republican Candidates for president in 2012. Not all of them will run. As I pointed out in a recent column, the larger number will ...

Thoughts on the Gabrielle Giffords assassination attempt
By Michael J.W. Stickings
I was out and about this afternoon when I heard a brief report on a local Radio Station about a shooting in Arizona.
My first thought: Great, another shooting in the U.S. Another sad story from a violent, gun-crazy country.
I pulled out my BlackBerry and quickly discovered what had happened -- and who the target was.
My second thought: Well, we sort of knew this was coming, right, this sort of political violence, likely by someone steeped in right-wing ideology? It wa...

Gabrielle Giffords Shooting - Updates
I watched the medical team Press Conference at noon. I have to say, I remain so impressed with the professionalism and determination of the medical trauma teams at the University Medical Center in Tucson, and elsewhere. It is comforting to know that even in a mid-sized city such as Tucson, such trauma teams are available. Of course, the reason such teams exist and are so competent at dealing with gunshot wounds is the legacy of gang and other violence in cities.

Flashback: Giffords Was One Of Two AZ Reps Who Protested Brewers Medicaid Cuts
As ThinkProgress previously reported, at least two Arizonans have died because they were denied funding for organ transplants that they were promised following Medicaid Budget cuts championed by Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R). The Governor called the transplants “optional.”
Horrified by the fact that 98 Arizonans were unable to get organ transplants they desperately needed, last month Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) joined with Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) to be the only two members of t...
