Tea Party: CHANGE: American Majority wants to infuse new Tea Party blood in system. “While other Tea Party-affiliated groups have zeroed in on specifically helping Candidates win seats inside the U.S. Capitol, Drew and Ned Ryun are more focused on developing a farm team at the local and state level who one day could run for Congress.” ...
Best, Worst Candidates of 2010: Scott Brown, Martha Coakley
Who was the best Candidate of 2010? Was it a write-in Candidate in Alaska? A Tea Party hero in Florida? A Governor with a shotgun in West Virginia? A Republican with a pickup truck in Massachusetts?
CBS News' politics team cast its votes and chief Washington correspondent Bob Schieffer announced the winners as part of the "Washington Unplugged" Politics Year in Review on Tuesday.
Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) was chosen by the "Unplugged" academy -- comprised of correspondents, producers and CBS ...
Tea Party-Backed Congressman-Elect Tim Scott Concerned About John Boehner's First 'Adult' Moment
Incoming GOP Rep. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) recently warned John Boehner that a move to raise the nation's quickly approaching Debt ceiling without first attempting drastic Spending Cuts could quickly repulse the Tea Party base.
Scott, a Tea Party-backed Candidate who was selected as one of two freshman Republicans on the House leadership team, told the Daily Caller in an interview that no actions should be taken to extend the Debt Limit until all other options were exhausted.
"I think until proven o...
Will tea party debate really hurt CNNs brand?
CNN has gotten a lot of flak from liberal quarters for its decision to team up with the Tea Party Express for its Republican presidential primary debate.
On Tuesday, Media Matters founder and CEO David Brock sent a letter to CNN/U.S. chief Ken Jautz protesting the move, calling Tea Party Express “a consultant-driven political organization dedicated to electing conservative Candidates” and saying the “alliance harms the brand your network has worked for decades to cultivate.&r...;
Specters farewell speech: Primary challenges are like cannibalism or something
Say this for the man: He went out the way he came in. As a squishy careerist tool.
Ever the prosecutor, Sen. Arlen Specter delivered a critical attack of partisan politics in his self-described “closing argument” Tuesday morning on the Senate floor…
Referring to primary challenges as a form of “sophisticated Cannibalism,” Specter called out to his moderate colleagues and would-be senators of this cycle: Sen. Bob Bennett of Utah, who lost his nomination at the party convention

Gulf oil spill voted top news story of 2010
NEW YORK -- The massive Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill, triggered by a deadly blast at a rig used by BP, was the top news story of 2010, followed by the divisive Health Care overhaul, according to The Associated Press' annual poll of editors and news directors.
The oil spill received 54 first-place votes out of 180 ballots cast for the top 10 stories. The Health Care bill was next, with 30 first-place votes. The U.S. election was third.
In fourth place was the U.S. economy, which had been voted th...

In a farewell Speech on the Senate floor today, departing Republican-turned-Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania said members of the GOP who backed Tea Party Candidates over establishment Republicans this year engaged in "a form of sophisticated Cannibalism."
The 80-year-old Specter, who has served in the Senate for more than three decades, said he was offering "not a farewell address but rather a closing argument." He compl...
Specter farewell speech slams GOP 'cannibalism' (AP)
WASHINGTON – Departing Republican-turned-Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter on Tuesday said conservative Republicans who backed Tea Party challengers against establishment Candidates in the recent Elections engaged in political Cannibalism.
In his final floor Speech, Specter complained there's scant room for Centrists like himself in a polarized Senate where civility is in short supply.
"In some quarters, Compromise has become a dirty word," said Pennsylvania's longest-serving senator, who lo...

Today's rage-a-holic IS "The Real John McCain"
Our own Cliff Schecter nailed it on The Last Word last night:
Yes, Anna Marie Cox was amusing, but Cliff focused like a laser on the core rage, resentment and demonizing fury that has been an underlying constant in John McCain's political life, even as he's managed to fool the vast majority of Versailles the vast majority of the time. Even Anne Marie Cox still exhibited some residual fondness for a mask McCain once wore, and the Cliff's clear-cut dissociation from that sort of confusion is wh...
Principle, pragmatism and the American Revolution
Boston merchants may have instigated early unrest to protect Smuggling profits. What did the American Revolution look like? Nathaniel Hawthorne imagined it as an angry face, painted so as to appear divided in two. “One side of the face blazed of an intense red, while the other was black as midnight,” he wrote. This uncanny visage appears in Hawthorne’s tale “My Kinsman, Major Molineux,” of 1831; its owner rides on horseback through moonlit Boston streets, carrying a...

Senators Hatch & Lugar Targets In 2012?
I’d like to think this is a rhetorical question, but somehow I get the feeling that Politics Daily correspondent Tom Diemer honestly hasn’t seen the handwriting on the wall. “Does the Tea Party movement have senior Republican Sens. Orrin Hatch and Dick Lugar in its crosshairs? Sen. Orrin Hatch would have plenty of piano time in Retirement A conservative-leaning Washington Tabloid says Hatch and Lugar — both Veterans of 3½ decades on Capitol Hill — should ...
Apportionment Day is upon us
* It’s Apportionment Day…
December 21st at 11:00am eastern time, the Census Bureau will release the first official data from the 2010 Census-the total U.S. population and the population for each state. For redistricting geeks, this is like Christmas Eve to the 10th power (since it only happens once a decade). The Secretary of Commerce, along with the Director of the Census Bureau, will hold a Press Conference at the National Press Club to release the numbers. These numbers wi...
What Was the Most Important Story of 2010? Healthcare? Elections?
What do you think was the most important story of 2010? That can be a hard call. There are obvious choices that land loudly in the headlines: the GOP landslide in the House, the signing of ObamaCare (otherwise known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act). There are incremental stories, like the chronically high jobless rate or the crumbling euro. The Tea Party was a phenomenon, not just a headline. And we are, in Afghanistan, approaching the second decade of the longest war we've e...

New Twist on the War on Christmas: Maybe Theyre Right
Two items in my inbox came together in a surprising way for me this morning. First, Billie Tucker, local First Coast Tea Party Leader, urges tea partiers to join her in "correcting" those of us who say anything other than Merry Christmas to convey our good wishes. She writes, "It's time we all take a stand and remind people the reason we are celebrating Christmas. Will you join me on this mission?" She was distraught that she could not find a nativity version of those lighted lawn ornaments that...

Whoa, Whos Been Spying on Me?
I’ve suggested a few times on this site that Michele Bachmann should have a leadership role in the GOP. Guess someone was listening … or maybe they were just plain smart.

Bachmann to Intelligence Committee.
Rep. Michele Bachmann, the Minnesota Republican who helped create a Tea Party Caucus of House members is getting a seat on the House Intelligence Committee.

Last Call
Well, we all know that according to the Tea Party, the subset of Real Americans can't include any Minorities, atheists, Mormons, Muslims, gays, Democrats, liberals, and anyone who watches Glee. Now you have to add Methodists to the list of people who don't count as actual Americans, and who should have no say in American society. A blog post on his Tea Party Nation page says that on Friday he walked by the United Methodist Building in Washington D.C., which had a sign that said, "Pass the DREAM ...
