Booze puts one Briton in hospital every 7 minutes
One person every seven minutes is admitted to Hospital for a Health Problem directly attributed to Alcohol. It marks an astonishing 54 per cent rise over the past decade, as the scale of Labour’s binge-drink legacy is laid bare. And the startling figures do not even come close to reflecting Alcohol’s full impact on the NHS because they exclude conditions that are merely exacerbated by drink, such as Diabetes and most types of Heart Disease. The figures from the NHS Information Centr...

Alcohol vs. Marijuana
Alcohol is one of the Most Toxic drugs, and using just 10 times what one would use to get the desired effect can lead to death. This thousands of times is actually theoretical, since there has never been a recorded case of marijuana Overdose. Jack Conway campaign ad accuses Rand Paul of being soft on crime
Accusing your opponent of being soft on Crime is pretty standard Campaign fare, but Kentucky Democrat Jack Conway -- a Candidate for U.S. Senate -- takes things one step further in a Campaign video, using a two-year-old quote from Republican opponent Rand Paul to suggest Paul wants to decriminalize everything from Drug dealing and Burglary to Prostitution. It then cuts to an image of Bernie Madoff with the question, "Should Wall Street Fraudster Bernie Madoff not be in jail?" A uniform...

I am Not a Fashionista!
When I came out in 1969 I lived in a commune on Grayson Street in Berkeley. It was in the distinctly unfashionable industrial area a couple of blocks west of San Pablo Ave. I was a hippie and dressed in free or thrift store clothes. While I had a couple of dresses and skirts I wore jeans a lot. Bell bottoms were hip in those days. I didn’t fit in with the sisters I met in San Francisco. They were into clothes and Fashion. They thought me strange because my mak...

Drug business as usual
As Californians get ready to vote on Proposition 19, which would legalize the individual possession of small amounts of marijuana for recreational use, one area of debate is what effect passage would have on the illegal Drug business here and in violence-torn Mexico. I can't predict the future, but I can say a little about narco-trafficking, having covered it off and on over four continents since the early 1990s. Traditionally, the bulk of the United States' marijuana has come from Mexico; even ...
