Racism : The Reverends Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Jim Wallis, Jeremiah Wright and Father Michael Pfleger insist Racism is alive and well in America.

And they are right.

All they need do is look in their respective mirrors to see some of its most active proponents. Racism certainly still exists among some whites in the U.S. But anyone who thinks seriously -- and honestly -- about the issue also knows those people are a dying breed. They never will die out completely, of course. Humans, contrary to libera...
What makes America great ...?
A site I frequent -- Common Sense Political Thought -- gets quite a few regular commenters from both sides of the political spectrum. In one recent thread, one regular lefty opined on the demise of America as he sees it: Were not the country we used to be. We turned our backs on our own values for the love of our own abject fear. We ignore the very real growing fascism within our borders, while accusing efforts at improvement of being fascist. We revere the generation that fought WWII whi...
Chicago Democrat: Only Blacks Should be Considered Minorities, Says Women, Asians, Hispanics Shouldnt Be Able to Use That Title
How very Racist of him…
(Chicago Sun Times)- Mayoral challenger James Meeks scrambled Thursday to put out a political fire touched off by his suggestion that only African-Americans should be eligible for city contracts set aside for Minorities and women.
Meeks made the statement on Wednesday during an interview on WVON-AM (1690). It happened during a discussion of why African-American businesses got a 7 percent sliver of Chicago’s $1 billion spending pie through Aug. 31, down from 8...
Chicago Mayor Candidates: Only Black People Should Be Considered Minorities
It happened during a discussion of why African-American businesses got a 7 percent sliver of Chicago’s $1 billion spending pie through Aug. 31, down from 8 percent a year ago. “The word ‘minority’ from our standpoint should mean African-American. I don’t think women, Asians and Hispanics should be able to use that title,” he said. “That’s why our numbers cannot improve — because we use women, Asians and Hispanics who are not People of Color, ...
Anti-Anti-Racism.
Political correctness and people who call things Racist are the greatest threats to free Speech, says Andrew Breitbart in this video from Reason (zoom ahead to 1:35):
This is a nearly pure expression of conservative anti-anti-racism, or the idea that accusations of Racism (against White People) are far more harmful than actual incidents of Bigotry against Minorities (with the collorary that Minorities are guilty of tremendous Racism against White People). Smearing Shirley Sherrod is perfectly ok...
Catch of the Day
How about one for Jamelle Bouie, calling out Andrew Breitbart (OK, it's easy pickings, but still):
This is a nearly pure expression of conservative anti-anti-racism, or the idea that accusations of Racism (against White People) are far more harmful than actual incidents of Bigotry against Minorities (with the collorary that Minorities are guilty of tremendous Racism against White People). Smearing Shirley Sherrod is perfectly okay, but calling out Breitbart's race-baiting is beyond the pale, an...
Meeks says Hispanics, Asians, and White Women aren't Minorities
Chicago Mayoral Candidate the Rev. Sen. James Meeks said only African-Americans should be labeled Minorities and therefore the only ones who should be allowed to be Affirmative Action program participants. He further clarified that he meant Hispanics, Asians, and women should be excluded from such federal programs. Meeks says it isn’t fair that the share of city contracts going to African-American owned businesses has decreased in recent times. He believes only people of...
City contracts still white man's world, Liu charges
Companies owned by women or Minorities are getting just a tiny fraction of city contracts, according to city Controller John Liu.
"The city is not doing enough to level the playing field," Liu said Thursday as he unveiled a new website that tracks the share of city work flowing to women and minorities.
According to Liu, just 2.3% of city contracts are going to women or Minorities - $398 million, compared with $16.6 billion for companies controlled by white men.
The $398 million consists of $12...
Poland's first black MP says colour no obstacle
WARSAW - Poland's first black lawmaker, John Godson, says the colour of his skin has helped him get ahead in his overwhelmingly white adopted country and he now wants to promote contacts between Poles and Africa. Nigerian-born Godson, a former Protestant pastor, took up his parliamentary seat this week as a member of Prime Minister Donald Tusk's ruling centre-right Civic Platform after replacing a colleague who became a city mayor in recent local Elections. "Being a black... has helped me in my ...
Sharpton: Rush Limbaugh May Have to Attend FCC Hearings to Explain 'Racist' Remarks
Al Sharpton said Thursday he spoke to the Federal Communications Commission about holding public hearings next year that Rush Limbaugh would be forced to attend to explain so-called "Racist" statements he's made on the air. Ed Schultz, HOST: And finally tonight, Rush Limbaugh has a long history of using his radio platform to make racist comments. Today, Reverend Al Sharpton met with the Federal Communications Commission and asked them to take a stand on Limbaugh. Reverend Sharpton ...
Star Parker: Should Michael Steele stay as RNC chairman?
Next month the Republican National Committee will elect a chairman to lead their party into the 2012 Presidential Election. Current Chairman Michael Steele, who has been a source of Controversy throughout his two year tenure, is being challenged by a number of Candidates. Many Republicans are unhappy with Steele's leadership style and management. But despite the relevance of these concerns, they should not be the central issue. Of central concern should be crystallizing the Republican Party's v...
House launches diversity effort
The House will launch a new diversity employment website Monday aimed at recruiting more Minorities to work on Capitol Hill.
The website, announced Friday by House Administration Committee Chairman Robert Brady, is a part of the diversity initiative launched by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi this spring.
The initiative was launched soon after the Congressional Hispanic Staffers Association released a report showing that the congressional staff severely lacks Hispanic representation, especially i...
Companies Run By White Men Dominate City Contracts
You see those tiny little lines on top of the big blue bars? Yeah, those are contracts awarded to companies not run by white guys.
Just as the city is dealing with a Scandal involving four white contractors stealing money from city coffers, Comptroller John Liu has launched a website with some sobering figures about the city's contracts to companies run by ...
Chicago mayoral candidate says minority contracts should only go to blacks
Chicago Mayoral Candidate James Meeks is fighting hard to put out the fire he started when publically stated that only blacks should be eligible for city contracts that have been set aside for women and other Minorities. Meeks inserted his foot in his mouth during a Radio Interview on WVON-AM, when the current topic of discussion was why are black businesses receiving 7% of Chicago’s $1 billion spending pie through Aug. 31, down from 8% a year ago. “The word ...
1,000 detained in Russia to prevent ethnic clashes (AP)
Moscow – Fearing more clashes between Racist Hooligans and mostly Muslim ethnic Minorities, police detained more than 1,000 people in Moscow and several other Russian cities Wednesday, after weekend Rioting in the capital left dozens injured.
Hundreds of Riot Police outside the Kievsky station in central Moscow hauled into police vans mostly young men and teenagers who were shouting Racist slogans and raising their hands in Nazi salutes. Some were lined up against buses and searched by p...
Putin: Moscow riots show need for stronger order
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin says violent rampages outside the Kremlin have highlighted the need to strengthen law and order and boost the prestige of the police. A weekend rally of 5,000 Racists and Hooligans left more than 30 people injured and raised doubts about the Kremlin's ability to stem a rising tide of xenophobia. Police on Wednesday prevented a replay of violence between Racists and mostly Muslim ethnic Minorities, detaining over 1,000 people in Moscow. Putin said during a call-in se...
Why the Declaration Initiative is the better answer
Our richly diverse array of freely chosen philanthropic causes demand our continuing support. But can we each dig a little deeper, despite the Recession, just as our forebears did in 1937 when they started giving dimes to attack polio? Could we work together on a shared effort that would show our gratitude to the Founders and the republic they left us? Our history would say that we can. So, I am proposing a "Declaration Initiative" to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Indepen...
Tax and Spend
I’m a tax enthusiast, in part thanks to the work of Lane Kenworthy. But taxes are unpopular. So unpopular, in fact, that a combination of political opportunism and psychic revulsion from advocating for tax hikes leads Progressives to spend a lot of time dreaming up ways to achieve beloved ends that don’t involve tax hikes. But so here’s a good Kenworthy post about how whatever happens with inequality, you help the poor by raising taxes and handing money over to poor people:
I...
We Are Democrats and People of Faith
Established in 2005, the mission of the Democratic National Committee's Faith in Action initiative (FIA) is to develop and maintain an integrated strategic plan for communicating with and organizing in communities of faith around our shared priorities, including eliminating Poverty, protecting the environment, and providing affordable Health Care to all. We are increasing the national visibility of Democrats on issues of faith and public life, and we are strengthening local outreach and organizi...
New York Times' Tea Party reporter defends her objectivity
“I mean, I’ve just written this book that very consciously tried to come up through the middle, and look at the Tea--that we, you know, the publishing house and I made a very conscious decision that there was a lot of polemic out there. I’m not a columnist so I couldn’t write a polemic about the Tea Party. What I could do is be a reporter. And we made a decision that we felt that there were a lot of people out there who just didn’t understand what the Tea Party was ...
The Left’s Secession Obsession
When a group called the Confederate Heritage Trust decided to hold a “Secession Ball” in Charleston, South Carolina, commemorating the 150th anniversary of South Carolina leaving the union, the event made national headlines. MSNBC host Ed Schultz said, “Conservatives in South Carolina are celebrating the destruction of the United States.” Schultz’s guest, Civil Rights Activist Al Sharpton, said the event celebrated “Treason.” Charleston NAACP president D...
Robin Lakoff: Head, Heart, Guts and Gonads: Getting Down and Dirty in the Rhetoric War
It is pretty obvious that Progressives will not fight for their beliefs. The very fact that we have jettisoned "liberal" in favor of "progressive" (because some people made fun of the former term) illustrates the point. But what is even more unfortunate is that, even when Progressives fight, we cannot do so effectively. There are some crucial facts about what constitutes an effective rhetorical strategy that Progressives seem not to be aware of, and that unawareness is deadly.
There are four p...

Pulling Up the Ladder
During a Google search for something else, I just now came across a nativist blog called stoptheinvasionoforegon. It is a particularly repellent specimen of the genre and contains a particularly revolting selection of Racist images. If you have the stomach for this kind of thing, Google it for yourselves. If the Internet had existed in the 1830s I imagine that the Cayuse and Klamath tribes would have spread the same sort of welcome mat for the wagon trains of land-hungry settlers just then arri...
Spain: Muslim family denounces teacher for talking about ham in class
Here is my rough translation of a Spanish-language article about a manifestation of Islamic Supremacism so outrageous that it is hard not to wonder whether or not it is a parody. But it doesn't seem to be one. "Una familia musulmana denuncia a un docente por hablar de jamones en clase," from Diario de Jerez, December 18 (thanks to Eloy):
A teacher at Menéndez Tolosa institute has been denounced by a Muslim family from La Línea because their son, a Student in the first year of High School, fe...
Quote of the Day
Norse mythology gets multi-cultural remake in upcoming movie titled "Thor," Marvel Studios. It's not enough that Marvel attacks Conservatives values, now mythological Gods must be re-invented with black skin. It seems that Marvel Studios believes that White People should have nothing that is unique to themselves. An upcoming movie, based on the comic book Thor, will give the Aesir an insulting multi-cultural make-over. One of the Gods will be played by Hip Hop DJ Elba.—The "radical and rac...
